The Misenchanted Newsletter #162: Substack!
A New Beginning
I’ve been publishing an email newsletter about what I’m working on, what’s being published, and other information about my writing.
Up until now I always produced it with very primitive methods (mostly from inertia), using the BCC: line in my regular email composer. However, that’s run into issues. A few years back the list of addresses got longer than my regular email server would accept, so I switched to a secondary email server. Now that one’s wound up being blacklisted several places because some of its other users are sending out spam or phishing emails. (It wasn’t me, I promise!)
And having recently discovered the existence of Substack… here we are. This issue is going out a little sooner after the last than usual because I want to test the new system more than because there’s any real news.
By the way, you may need to let your e-mail system know you asked for this, it isn’t spam or other promotional material.
And now the news…
Ethshar:
No change since the last newsletter. Charming Sharra will probably be out in February, maybe March.
Audiobooks:
Nothing new to report. Audiobooks of the second and third volumes of the Annals of the Chosen, The Ninth Talisman and The Summer Palace, should be out some time in 2023.
I’ve also set things up to do an audiobook of Tom Derringer & the Aluminum Airship read by the author — that is, me — but I don’t know when, if ever, I’ll actually find time to produce it.
Tom Derringer:
One illustration for Tom Derringer & the Electrical Empire is ready; not sure whether I’m going to wait for the other or just go ahead with only the one.
Short Stories:
Thrilling Adventure Yarns 2022, the anthology containing "The House of the Spider," is almost ready to go — I’ve received page proofs of the finished interior, less two of the illustrations that aren’t yet in hand, and it will be going to press out as soon as a few final details are squared away. It should be shipping in February.
Still haven’t figured out what to do with "Three Days Late for the Hanging" and "The Girl Who Couldn't Fly."
Other Stuff:
I have received the official reversions from FoxAcre Press; as of December 31st they are discontinuing publication of the seven titles of mine they currently have in print. They're dropping most of their authors, I'm not being singled out. I expect to get all seven back in print, but I’m not sure where.
I mentioned that this was coming in the previous newsletter, but cleverly forgot to list the seven titles in question. All four novels are science fiction:
Shining Steel
Among the Powers (formerly entitled Denner’s Wreck)
Nightside City
Realms of Light (sequel to Nightside City)
Crosstime Traffic (short story collection)
Celestial Debris (short story collection)
The Final Folly of Captain Dancy & Other Pseudohistorical Fantasies (short story collection)
